This is not your casual fluffy animal rpg. We're not all about cutesy animals or dreamy unicorns. Mark of the Wild is a dark fantasy taking place on a fictional world where the power of the Old Gods has made it's resting place. A portal discovered in the Black Sea by the Roman Navy has lured them into a strange new world where they have erected their culture and established their reign, seeking new treasures, conquest, and even expansion.

Filled with ancient legends, mysteries, and dark lore, the world of Verusa awaits you, where the legends of the Old Gods exist, where their breath is as one with your own heartbeat, and where their power is yours to access when the need arises. -Where the men here are not what they seem, and home to an ancient civilization that could be deemed as a God through mortal eyes. Verusa is a world where the land's men and beasts - through the acts of corruption and imbalance, have become one.

World Events
In the event that there is an important plot-related thread, it will be listed here so anyone and everyone can read up on it.
Active Scenarios

High Stakes: Not-Active High Stakes is a game dynamic that puts all characters within the site at risk. In most cases, this follows a natural catastrophe such as a disaster or human event, such as "Hunting Season". .

Open Season: Not-Active When Open Season is declared, human characters are authorized to hunt the specified species that will be stated in the Side Bar under 'Open Season'. Out-of-season hunting is declared as poaching, and will result in your human character paying a visit to the Aspect, quite possibly to their detriment...

Famine: Not Active There is a shortage of food in a given area and that characters are expected to seek out the location of prey. At the same time, characters are hindered on their abilities due to this shortage of food and will take a malnutrition debuff that will affect their abilities and their stats.

Uma was alone. She did not like the feeling of it. Where were her sisters? The skilled huntresses that, when united, became a force as mighty as the Trijenov River. She flattened her ears and crouched low to lap up the cool, fast moving waters of the river. Her tail whipped the air as she listened to all the wild sounds around her. The bleating of zebra. Gentle slaps from the swimming hippos. The vibrations of the wildebeest as they marched along in search of greener pastures. The lioness was surrounded by life, loud, vibrant life. Yet, her spirit flickered listlessly. For she was nothing without a pride. Without cubs darting between her legs. Without the powerful roar of shaggy maned male in the distance.

She raised her head and stared back up at the bank. The sun captured the droplets that trickled down her chin, causing them to shimmer. Her orange eyes drifted here and there as she pondered on what to do. Should she stay near this stretch of the river in hopes that she might catch the scent of local lions? Or should she follow the wildebeest to the promise land? Her heart screamed… stay.

Uma licked her lips and slowly made her way back up the bank. The dry season was upon her, so every step she took seemed to stir the earth like miniature clouds of smoke. The area was flat here and dotted with Marula Trees. Tall grasses were non-existent here. Only rocks, dry thickets, the trees, and the open sky.

Keep looking. Uma grasped at a boulder she had claimed, since arriving here a week ago, and hoisted herself on top of it. Under the late afternoon sun, she scanned the horizons for any signs of lion life. A scent. A roar. Anything.

It had been ages since the male had been seen upon these familiar plain lands, leading a mighty pride of his own. He had seen the best and the worst and even felt the pang of love and loss. So many events passed through the mind of the infamous King Teo as he marched into the territory which now seemed barren and unfamiliar. Well.. no longer King. He was just Teo now. He had spent so much of his life trying to prove to his father that he could be the leader that he wanted to be but it seemed it was all for not. He had failed. And to be honest, he wasn't sure why he was wandering back to the land of his failure, all he knew was that he was here and he could not quite stop himself.

He arrived toward a bank, the need for water ebbing in the back of his mind. The true reason he had moved toward this location, he supposed. Steady and yet hesitant, he lowered his mighty dome toward the cool, crisp water and began to lap at its shimmering surface. He had to be on his guard at all times. He was a nomadic male once more, and stepping into unfamiliar territory meant hell for him should be piss off the wrong male. This was not to say he was incapable of fighting and fending for himself, however, too many injuries was absolutely deadly without a harem of lovely ladies to hunt and defend. Fights were almost pointless. Why injure himself with nothing to protect? Therefore he had become a master of avoiding conflict. There was no point in harming his gorgeous features, anyways.

The water was absolutely filling but he froze instantly as a reflection came into view. It was hard to distinguish at first for the ripples blurred the image intensely. But as they slowly diminished he could see the faintest outline of a lion...no, a lioness on the surface. Every vein in Teo's body ran cold. Did she belong to someone? What was she doing? Was she alone? Too many variables and questions left the lion almost frozen without action. This was the first lioness that he had seen in a very long time – he could not risk not investigating. It was in the very root of his sex to investigate and the more he agreed with the idea of giving into his curiosity the more his balls tingled with excitement.

He glanced up and observed, clearly she had not yet noticed him and he decided to use it as his advantage. He disappeared into the undergrowth nearby, quite glad he'd listened to his cautious side and chosen a place to drink near a quick getaway. In his mind, this was for a rival male's appearance, not a lovely lady. Slowly his paws brushed against the soft dirt, masking his movement as he inched closer. Surprising her may not have been the best tactic, but he had always found a way to woo ladies toward his side and he had used this before. Perhaps it would work this time. Who knows, Teo was borderline an idiot. She seemed to be searching for something but not in the immediate area because the poor female seemed oblivious toward his advances. Excellent.

Finally he was within "striking" distance. Teo took a deep breath in to compose himself before exhaling very slowly. Moment of truth. The rock that she stood on had been the perfect location for him to see her and he couldn't help but admire her figure. She was young and seemed in her prime. No obvious scars along her limbs or jaw that he could tell which meant she was fit for hunting. He cringed a bit, noticing some lines marring her neck but they seemed healed and much older. How had she gotten those? After waiting a few more minutes he finally rose up and stepped from the bushes, now adjacent to her and coming up toward her flank. He emitted a deep purr that rumbled from the depths of his chest, lacing the words that soon followed his mouth.

"What's a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?"His words were short and sweet yet followed by the notion that he had discovered in his advance toward her. She truly was alone which meant she might be a nomadic female looking for a pride. It was a long shot, but deep in his gut Teo hoped that she was looking for what he was looking for. Sex. Family. And most importantly, survival.

The tall, dry grasses rippled with the wind, transforming the savannah into a moving sea. The sounds of life continued to drum in her ears. Relentlessly calling out to her, inviting her to tango with the rest of the land. It was a thing that constantly shifted, never standing still. If one even dare pause and take a breath, they’d risk getting killed and eaten.

Uma blinked and ran a rough tongue across her black lips as she brooded on the meaning of her life at this very moment in time. She tried picturing what life would be if she had stayed in captivity. Funny, how life works. If she had stayed there, in the fighting pits, she would have never discovered this beautiful, grand world. This is what I was meant to do, she said inwardly. And as she thought it, images of her first and only pride burst into her head. She purred at the memories. At the love, partnerships, and lessons she had learned from them. Uma, under the big blue sky, felt totally… free.

Suddenly, a deep purr rose from the sea of grasses beneath her. Ears swivled ‘round as she turned her muzzle to look down upon a massive, male lion.

What's a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone?

Uma stiffened, flattening her ears and slowly unsheathing her claws. This strange male’s appearance was amazing and dangerous all at once. Nevertheless, she had to keep it together long enough to either ward off the danger or realize that he was exactly was searching for.

“Waiting for a real lion to lay his claim on me,” she replied in a sharp voice. Uma rose to her feet, tail lashing across her back as she continued, “do you have something to offer me? Or are you just looking for an easy kitten? If not, I’m giving you ten seconds to get out of my face, boy.”

Although, Uma was indeed desperate for a lion’s company, especially male, she wasn’t about to run into his…. (rather strong) arms. She needed to test him out. See what was beneath that large (handsome) mane. And hear the real note beneath his deep (delightfully rough) voice.

Uma furrowed her defined eyebrows and watched him like the Romans watched the final draw of a gladiator's sword on a leaping lion.

Simple as this
I'm in love with the risk
She still was growing accustomed to her new body and the fact that she had four legs instead of two. It wasn't everyday that you die and become transformed into a large cat after all. She was still in awe over the fact that she had met Leviathen face to face- the very aspect that she had looked up to all of her life. The encounter still ran clear in her head, even as she moved through the tall savanna grass. She stuck out like a sore thumb here, her white and black hide making her blend in with zebras rather then blending in with the grass. But Akela didn't want to blend in. She didn't care who saw her and who didn't see her. Her main objective was the hunt, and more importantly quenching her thirst. Sure she was a hell of a lot more hungry than she was thirsty but that could wait. All she could think about was a dip in the cool river, after all she did love swimming. So it was with this objective in mind that she strode through the tall grass, her tail twitching delicately behind her. Her paws left relatively large indents in the dirt behind her, leaving behind a fresh trail as she strode through the grass, until suddenly she caught scent of not one but two felines.

They were similar to herself but not entirely. Definitely from the big cat family but they weren't her specific kind. She pulled to a complete halt and lowered her belly to the ground, her ice blue eyes surveying her surroundings until finally they landed on the form of a lioness and a rather large brute of a lion. They were both by the river that she had wanted to swim in but that could wait now. Oh god please don't tell me their about to get it on.. I swear I'm watching my own personal porno right now.. She thought to herself before letting out a slow sigh. She supposed she would have to make her presence known sooner rather then later. She waited for the perfect opportunity until she rose off the ground, her paws leading her closer to the strangers but still keeping a safe distance between them- it was two against one after all. Well technically neither of you are alone now. She spoke with her cool vocals, her bell like tones being naturally smooth as the words flowed off her tongue. She glanced back and forth between the two lions and spoke once more, Though I've got to say it's nice seeing other cats for a change. She responded before pulling her haunches to the ground as she sat. She was not concerned at the moment though if they felt threatened by her presence she would either fight or take flight, one way or another it seemed like it would be a promising day for the female.

Teo's eyes scanned along the female, whiskers twitching a few times as he used the awkward silence between them to better appreciate her beauty. An inhale gasp could be heard as he prepared his next words before she spoke sharply.

"Waiting for a real lion to lay his claim on me." Ouch, that hurt. "do you have something to offer me? Or are you just looking for an easy kitten? If not, I’m giving you ten seconds to get out of my face, boy." Oh.. she was fiesty. A deep part of Teo told him that he should retreat as a lioness with rage is nothing to fiddle with. But another part of him was oh so turned on. If his pride was to survive, he would need a female with vicious traits to ward of the weak and lead beside him. The thought made his tail tip twitch with excitement.

Despite his ever growing excitement, he remained calm and collected on his outside appearance, taking a calculated step toward the lioness with his smoothest gait. "My dear, you wound me with your words. Do I not look fit enough to be considered a 'real lion'?" As he spoke, he continued to move toward her, extending his forearms to place on the lower side of the boulder she was standing on to close the distance with them even more. "I'm sure I could prove more than qualified to rock your world, sweetheart." He purred confidently, long tail swaying ever so casually against the undergrowth that flanked the two.

As Teo was preparing to make his final move, he heard a voice that made him tense up slightly. "Well technically neither of you are alone now. Though I've got to say it's nice seeing other cats for a change." It was a female masked with a scent that he hadn't quite smelled before. Oh but her voice was like an angel ringing in his ears. Teo couldn't help but think of the beauty that spoke to them. Perhaps another lioness? Was this is his lucky day? Slowly and deliberately tense, the male lion lowered down and faced about to see their new present visitor.

He froze and was surprised to see her pelt wasn't the normal golden brown that he had been used to. In fact, she was quite an odd looking lioness if he would say so himself. His face contorted with confusion before one clicked with two and he realized that she wasn't actually a lion but one of the many other jungle cats he had remembered hearing about in his two-legged days. Panther? No.. that's not quite right. The stripes... the stripes... ah yes, tiger! Though he did recall them having a more... orange look. Nevertheless, it was strange to see her kind walking the savannah where their pelt was so obviously visible from as far as Thorsoc's temple!

"Curious.. I've not seen one of you in this parts in.. well, ever." The lion chimed in, murmuring almost to himself but loud enough so she could hear him. But then a thought passed and he fully let himself bestow upon her beauty. Ah yes.. the tingling sensation he felt was no liar. He was attracted to her in the worst possible ways. They were both cats, no? So there was nothing wrong with giving it a try with her... after all, maybe she would fit nicely in his to-be pride. OOC:

Through the shadows his eyes peered forth into the light, gazing upon the world beyond as he articulated the situation before him. He knew Teo to be down at the other end of the hill, most likely swooning a couple of females as he usually did. And by many means had had within him that right, but something didn't seem right. In all the years that Ajayi had spent with Teo there was one thing that he had come to know since the many long years of his transformation, and that was the fact that silence was your enemy, and that when it meant peace for men, it spelt disaster for the wild-folk.

And so he waited, his eyes sharp, his gaze fixed in a certain direction. Most of his memories prior to becoming one with the Al'tauri Shveffra, he had no knowledge of the life that he lived before he had been exiled from the likes of the Al'a'kir, but it came to him in flashes, dreams even, a life beyond this one, one where he was important to a wide number of people and that he had a sense of purpose in his life that long exceeded this one.

He knew that he wasn't always an animal, and buried within the synapse of things was the fact that there was a knowledge that ran deeper than the understandings that which the mind of the beast allowed him to understand. He knew that he was a once a man, a Shaman, one gifted with the arts of the Al'a'kir, chosen to be the beacon that the others follow, to be the guiding light to those that were lost in the dark. And had things not been the way they had, he would've never found Teo again, his friend from when they were both humans, a life long companion that taught him that there was a life outside of war and glory, but there was a greater value to living by embracing peace and harmony. Unfortunately, the Aspects felt that his teachings were insufficient to be forgiven for his sins and had him transformed along with the many others.

Even when he had been exiled by the Al'a'kir, they left him some kind of chance to survive in the world, they left memories of certain friends, certain aspects of his previous life that he was allowed to cling onto as though it were some kind of last beacon of hope that he may one day redeem himself of his sins.

But as his eyes scanned forward, watching the sun part in shadows behind the blades of grass that stood before him as a bug buzzed just along side his ear, he made the notion of several glinting objects. When the blur passed and these objects materialized into men wearing red and silver armor with red furred head-dresses that reminded him of a dorsal fin, his own head rose.

He had seen men such as this before, he had felt their presence in his dream and often he felt some kind of overwhelming presence of doom befall it. He was able to associate pain and suffering with their very image, was able to see things that were not apparent as it were before him but in some kind of unlocked hidden memory that he was some how allowed to carry with him into his transformation.

Immediately, he knew what he had to do. He was to perceive them as a threat just as his own instincts were telling him to do. He took a moment to judge their distance and their rate of travel, some were on horseback, the others, particularly the ones with the pikes - advanced on foot. It didn't seem to be a war-party as he was accustomed to in the days of the tribes, but more or less, a long range reconnaissance. But needless to say, there was something that sparked within the back of his mind that was telling him that even these men, on a routine patrol, were beginning to tire of the spoiled rations that had been issued to them by their superiors.

And with that, he turned, making his way down the inclined and towards the gathering, taking a moment to collect the words and prepare his eyes for what he felt was going to be a rather awkward moment.

"Teo," he began as he slowed to a halt, turning his eyes to face the white tiger and regarded her with an intrinsic nonverbal greeting that could only be acknowledged through the glint of one's eyes, "There's about ten or twenty soldiers coming this way, six-hundred meters, just over the hill." he informed as he took a moment to consider their numbers. He knew that Teo needed to re-establish his reign on the plain-lands, what a better way to get the word out than to dip your hands in some human blood.

"Normally, I would suggest retreat..." he said as he glanced over his shoulder in the general direction of the soldiers that he last saw them, a snarky grin fell about his features as he felts his paws plant themselves in the soil. Retreat would only buy them time, but it would not rid them of their burden. He knew more than well enough that their previous endangers had most likely put a bounty on their heads and that there was no doubt in his mind that they were most likely out to collect it. "But we've exhausted that option for too long... perhaps it's time to bite instead." he offered an alternative. There were two more in their group, one was a tiger, a species that he was well familiar with, and of course, the primal fury and renown strength of the lion was all too much for a bunch of new soldiers who hadn't so much as a single hair between their legs - let alone, any official combat experience.

"There's a rebel Neikenya tribe camp not too far from here... we could lead them straight into it and spring the trap..." he turned his head in the direction towards Trijenov River, "It's down there about three miles along the river bank." he quipped as he waited for Teo to elect which option best suited their needs.

Asad had many surprises when he'd awoken from a prior life he should have died in, including a headache that felt better to bash his skull on a rock than to bear. He wished he were back there, living in the lap of luxury and ruling his birthright once more, but the destiny of being alive instead of dead was promising enough for him to continue on living as a lion instead of a man with minimal adjustments to his new terminally furry existence. He had often pondered his previous life, like if he could ever live it again, if his brother had taken over the tribe in his absence, and why he had been resurrected in the first place.

The scent and promise of water in the sun-dehydrated sahara oven had driven him near. As he sauntered at a leisurely pace, he heard the sounds of communication, and contiued his approach at a south eastern vector, his ears cocked to pick up the audio details present at his destination. At a hundred meters, the brush had cleared enough for his vision to pick out the targets of interest, a female lionness, and a male lion. The wind had ceased enough for him to just barely make out the tone of conversation: a sultry female and a horny male performing the tango that would determine new life. His nose tested the air for telltale scents of progesterone that would indicate receptivity to procreation. He had not arrived within a conversational distance yet, so as he travelled, he noted everything the male did, how the female reacted, and took mental notes to do the exact opposite. This female struck as someone who knew what she want and wanted to be dominated by someone who wasn't afraid to go balls deep in batshit crazy bitch. To Asad, procreation was what it was and he saw it as a means to gather women and rule something again. Ruling over a pack of lions wasn't exactly his life's ambitions when he was born a screaming human baby, but now that he was this, might as well take what he could get, because he sure as hell didn't have any indications of changing back to a human form anytime soon.

And then there was a second female, an albino lightning strike, the likes of such an inverse creature he'd never seen before. No matter, he was only interested in the lionness, but his mind still did wander what such a creature would be like to fuck - he simply couldn't help it as a male.

A cheetah with a neck afro was next to arrive, alerting them to danger of roman soldier scum and notifying him of who this male lion really was. Interesting. Very interesting. So this is where his brother had been, all these years, and now he'd been sent to join them. But did his brother know who he was? He had so many feelings he simply did not have the brain power to process them all. All of the worry. Hatred. Jealousy. Apathy. A slew of emotions that teetered on ever side except brotherly love.

"Come away. Come with me.", he stated gruffly, no question in his voice but a statement, no hesitance, but simply all the masculinity of the violence and allure of a well-sharpened blade. He had arrived at last and eyed the lionness primarily, as it was her he wanted the most, but he gave a cursory glance to the other fine bit of ass (the tigress) . His voice was deep and powerful, his air as regal as Teo's - if not more as he had been a king far more recently than Teo had. Asad hoped his facade would work, and that he would look like just another bachelor eager to cast off his virginity and have a chance at a pride, too. Asad's plan was simple - take what he wanted and leave the rest. Fuck Teo. And fuck being a lion.

(sorry about the wait, took an extra few days to exit my post, all done now)

My dear, you wound me with your words. Do I not look fit enough to be considered a 'real lion'?

There we go, Uma thought inwardly as she listened to Teo’s voice and watched him place a (seemingly) casual paw upon the rock she sat on. Show me what you got, don’t you walk away from me, she said inwardly as she looked him over. I'm sure I could prove more than qualified to rock your world, sweetheart.

Uma allowed herself to smile, but her eyes stayed unyielding. She was about to continue toying with the male when, all of the sudden, a blue eyed wonder appeared among them. A tiger. Uma regarded the black and white feline politely yet cautiously. She had faced her fair share of tigers in the fighting pits and she wasn’t about to revisit those moments so soon.

Well technically neither of you are alone now. Though I've got to say it's nice seeing other cats for a change.

“Are you lost m’dear?” Uma said, trying to keep it cool between them. However, her tail flicked annoyingly when Teo’s full attention seem to turn on her.

I’m not done with you yet, Uma protested.

It did not take long for the simple encounter to turn into a wave of random, exciting events. As Uma leaped down from her rock to at least pretend to be interested in the tiger’s response, a cheetah came wandering down towards them. She had lived in the wild long enough to become familiar with the Cheetah species. She could fondly remember the days when she her sisters would chase them off any kill she desired.

Teo.

Friendly with the cheetahs hm? Uma thought looking from the speckled cat to the great maned lion. Her ears perked up to listen further:

There's about ten or twenty soldiers coming this way, six-hundred meters, just over the hill. Normally, I would suggest retreat… Uma’s eyes looked to the direction the cheetah was motioning to. A low growl hummed from the depths of her chest and her eyes lit with an eternal flame. She hadn’t seen a physical human since her caged days. But we've exhausted that option for too long... perhaps it's time to bite instead.

Revenge. Uma’s tail flicked as she gathered her remaining strength for this wonderful opportunity.

There's a rebel Neikenya tribe camp not too far from here... we could lead them straight into it and spring the trap... It's down there about three miles along the river bank.

Come away, Come with me. Uma’s daydream of chasing humans and hooking their ankles with her claws was disrupted by a strong, clear voice. The lioness turned her head and met the solid eyes of another male lion.

“I won’t be going anywhere until I see if you can chase an enemy from my sight,” Uma responded, and padded so very close to him. “Come away with me, she whispered and slid underneath his chin, making sure her tail brushed against his wide nose.

Leaving him behind her she padded up to the cheetah (while giving Teo a passing smirk) and in a cool voice said, “let’s get this started, I might even toss you a hind leg if my instincts get the best of me and I end up killing one of them.”

She glanced over at the only other female feline, for a minute thinking she was another lioness. Nevertheless, Uma could find it in her to teach the tigress how to hunt in a pride if she wanted to. After all, her instincts to work in a pride setting urged her to.
